after a long discussion with friends last night, i've decided to start blogging again! wahoo!!!

yesterday was a pretty straightforward one, now that i think about it. woke up, played some FFXIV, then went to Justis' for the Pathfinder campaign (we really need to come up with a name for our party). I gotta say, Nimbus wrecked SHOP this session . . . that Lesser Elemental Rage is a beast! electrocuted one dude, burned a vampire up and got to use some choice phrases (yes, he got "lit fam"), and freed our companion Malik (the 5 foot freak) from a magical database run amok. and I got my chain mail sewn into my Hopper jacket! fashion AND function, friends forever! afterwards we went to check out Jes at Righteous and had the conversation that led to what you're reading right now, my first LJ entry in . . . damn, almost 10 years!!!

hello!

you know the saying . . . about the road to hell, and what it's paved with?  well, i saw one prime example of that today, and one example of just sheer dumbassedness.

while waiting to cross the street at Spring and 12th street, i witnessed this scene.

to say that it was hot outside would be an accurate statement.  it wasn't unbearably so, but just hot enough to cue thoughts of the wave of heat that would undoubtably wash out of my car once i opened the door.  the traffic was thick and seemingly endless, like my . . .

this woman in an SUV suddenly slowed and came to a dead stop on Spring, right before the middle of the intersection.  at first i thought that she was having car trouble, but a glance inside the car revealed that she was waving the person waiting to make a left onto Spring ahead.  now, mind you, this woman was NOT in the leftmost lane on Spring - rather, she was one lane over from that.  so, not only was she endangering the person turning, but also the other drivers on Spring who were going around her.  luckily, the guy turning waved her on . . . he recognized her good intentions, but also didn't want to get smashed up by the cars whizzing by her on either side.

the second incident happened when i got off the highway onto Freedom Parkway.  i made my right onto Boulevard, and went through one light, then stopped at the 2nd light (i believe), the one with the gas station and the elementary school across from it.  i was waiting to make the left, and the dude across from me was waiting to make HIS left.  i glanced in my passenger side mirror, and saw that the way was clear for him, so i waved him on - totally safe.  while i was doing this, this woman who was waiting to cross with her son, decides to make a break for it.  with her 6-7 year old son.  running across the intersection, in ACTIVE traffic.  she paused at the halfway point - at this point, there was traffic whizzing around the next person trying to make a turn, so she had to keep peeking out to see if it was safe.  mind you, she NEVER had the "walk" light in her favor.  my point being - ESPECIALLY if you have a young child with you - don't try and tempt fate like that!  that kid is now thinking "well, if Mommy's doing it, then i should be fine doing it".  when i have little Sunshines, i'm gonna be damn sure they know to watch for the light and only cross when it's right!

this blog isn't to say that i don't ever do foolhardy and/or rash things - i sure as hell have been guilty of them, and probably will be in the future.  but hopefully . . . HOPEFULLY, i'll remember this post and think about it more next time.  at least for a month.  week?  hopefully i remember my lesson tomorrow.  yeah.

in other news, i once again had a reminder of why i love my damn job so much.  around christmas time, my coworker Darrell got this animatronic Santa Claus scene - basically, Santa is warming his ass on a fire, and a snowman is on the other side of the fire.  you push the button, and Santa wiggles his ass while he and the snowman engage in seemingly innocent, yet also blatantly homoerotic banter while Santa farts (clearly a virgin fart, too).  well, today was the end of that . . . i heard the smashing, and came out of my cubicle to an Office Space-style beatdown and destruction of Santa and his snow buddy.  i immediately joined in with glee, stomping out Claus like i was Zoe Bell from Death Proof.  these are the moments that make SuperDeluxe SuperDeluxe.  a place where rapping loudly in your cubicle is likely to result in people joining you.  a place where we have whiteboards covered in pictures of polar bears.  a place where, if you catch the right moment, you can see the Pushup Club doing their daily rituals.  god bless you, SDXE!!!!!!!

(i'm baaaaaaaack!!!)

ninja at the anti-war protest this weekend. can't claim to be too deeply into the politicos, but it was a really interesting weekend. the highlight, i think, was the guy on the subway who told his wife that he couldn't be nice to the protestor who was standing right next to him because, "just look at that stuff (referring to the anti-war/Bush signs)!" eventually he got into a discussion with the dude with the signs, and by the end they were nodding and reaching agreement with each other on different topics. lovely.

man, why am i sitting here at work late, singing Morrissey to the cleaning ladies?

there are those of you who might ask "why are you posting on LJ instead of doing your damn work and getting out of there?" that would be those of you who don't know me too well.

i'm really thinking about just giving up this django happy hour gig. i mean, it started out cool - people coming out, me gettin to play some drum and bass, house, hip hop, 80s etc . . . but now, the same people aren't coming out, and i'm having to d/l and play all this downtempo stuff - not to knock it, but it's not really my bag as far as playing out goes. i end up playing off my laptop most of the time! maybe somethin will come up where i get to REALLY play "whatever i want". hmmmm.

i had something else that i really wanted to write about at work today, but i totally frikkin forget. cute office chick was wearing neapolitan colors today. as MikeWright says, "it's all about the SWIRL!" LOL . . .

shit. i really wish i knew what it was that i was gonna write about!

1) after having worked for 10+ years for various big companies, i still get a little "oooh i'm all grown up" thrill from calling people and leaving messages on their voice mail (work-related).

2) if you leave your phone at someone's house in another city after passing out drunk there, and the person went out of town for a week the same day that you left, you really can't get pissed if they haven't sent it yet. especially when the person gave you a $75 gift certificate to eat lunch the day you left. i mean, REALLY. come on! i dunno, maybe i'm just too forgiving.

3) the new smoothie mix Skittles are like, my new crack cocaine. i'm hooked on em like i was hooked on Mint Skittles when they first came out. MMMMM MMMMM, BITCH!!!

4) it's very interesting to play the "avoid-people-you-work-with-in-the-foodcourt-at-lunch-like-the-plague" game. today i succesfully avoided eye contact with someone in the Chick-Fil-A line 2 down from me. great use of ninjutsu skills. i think the tattoo helps . . . i think it started glowing . . .

i wonder, if i had a kuchiyose, what would i summon? i think i'd either want a bird, or a big panther (like Guenhwyvar!!)

in shoegaze/twee bands with a female lead singer . . . sometimes there is a track or two where a male member of the group wants to sing. this is a mistake 90% of the time.

anybody got any good shoegaze/twee recommendations? female lead singer is necessary. =p

NIGHT ONE: Metalheadz

decent turnout, but nowhere NEAR the crowd i remember from 2 yrs ago. sound was craptacular for awhile, then got "better" later on. Ink killed shit, as did Goldie. the other sets were just awesome. met some crazy dope b-girl (Waria), if you were there then you know who i'm talkin about.

apparently at SoBE Live, you are only allowed to sit on the ledge in the back if you have a nice booty that security can look at :-p
